Itinerary

Day 1

Today we transfer to the airport for our overnight flight to Dijon, France.

Note: The airport location and airline will be confirmed no sooner than nine months before departure.

Day 2

Upon arrival in Dijon, we will embark on a panoramic tour of the city. Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth and power throughout history, and it was considered one of the great European centers of art, learning, and science. The Dijon architecture is impressive and varied, though one feature regularly stands out – the polychrome-tiled roofs that were once a symbol of status. These roofs are works of art, with tiles glazed in terracotta, green, yellow, and black and arranged in unique geometric patterns. The afternoon is yours to explore the city. Visit one of the many museums dedicated to art and history, stroll through the botanical gardens, or wander the historic city center that boasts excellent food, fine wine, and great shopping! Tonight we will gather to share stories of our day and enjoy a delicious dinner.

(Dinner included)

Day 3

Relax over breakfast at the hotel before we depart for Saint-Leger-sur-Dheune to board CroisiEurope’s MS Danièle for a six-night cruise down the Burgundy Canal. We’ve chartered the barge just for our group! After settling into our comfortable cabins, we will be introduced to the crew at a welcome cocktail reception with dinner to follow.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 4

This morning we will leave by coach to Nolay to hike to the Cirque du Bout du Monde, a Natura 2000 natural site. There we will admire the imposing chalk cliffs carved by the river Cozanne, leaving behind a blind valley in which a towering waterfall formed. Our coach will then take us to Mont de Sène, an ancient Celtic religious site overlooking the Santenay vineyards from more than 1,700 feet above. The panoramic views of the vineyards and surrounding peaks and valleys are amazing! In the afternoon, we’ll walk to the center of Santenay, a charming little wine-producing village with a priceless historical heritage, before enjoying a wine tasting at one of the thirty-eight wine producers’ in the village. After returning to our barge, the boat will cruise toward Chagny.

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 5

This morning will be spent cruising towards Chalon-sur-Saône. Relax on the sun deck with a drink in hand or grab a bike and follow along the banks of the Doubs River. In the afternoon, we’ll set out on a walking tour of Chalon-sur-Saône, the birthplace of one of the inventors of photography. Today, Chalon is a city of art and history, and you will be delighted by the half-timbered houses built between the 15th and 17th centuries, the restored facade of St Vincent’s cathedral, and the fine classical mansions dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Our tour will end with a tasting session of some local wines before we return to the barge.

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 6

This morning will be spent cruising towards Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Bicycles are available on board if you would like to ride along the canal’s banks. This afternoon’s guided tour will take us through Saint-Jean-de-Losne, a small town filled with monuments to a rich and prestigious past. Admire the many monuments and unique architecture before we visit the Batellerie Museum dedicated to the history of navigation. A tasting of Burgundy specialties will complete our day, and we’ll return to the canal for dinner and drinks aboard the barge this evening.

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 7

The entire day will be spent cruising towards Petit-Ouges. Grab a drink in the lounge or enjoy the best views of the countryside from the jacuzzi, under the shade of a parasol on the terrace, or up on the sun deck. The bikes will be available for those who wish to ride along the canals. We’ll arrive in Petit-Ouges late in the afternoon.

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 8

This morning will be spent cruising towards Dijon. In the afternoon, we will set out along the Grands Crus Wine Route that passes through villages and some of the finest and most prestigious Burgundy vineyards. The journey continues to a wine estate to discover a traditional vineyard, visit the cellars that hold barrels and bottles, and take part in tasting of the famous wines from the region. Once back on board, it’s time to get ready for our gala evening and dinner.
