Itinerary

Day 1

Today we will transfer to the airport for our flight to San José, Costa Rica. Upon arrival we’ll make our way to the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen to freshen up for a delicious welcome dinner this evening.

Note: The airport location and airline will be confirmed no sooner than nine months before departure.

(Dinner included)

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before we journey to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve that protects a wide variety of endangered species. More than 2,500 plant species, 100 mammal species, 400 bird species, 120 amphibian and reptile species, and thousands of insect species draw scientists and tourists alike! Our morning drive will also include breathtaking views of Lake Arenal and the northern plains of Costa Rica. Our guide will teach us the importance of each habitat we encounter and share the history of each town we pass. We will also visit Don Juan for a tour of the coffee plantation that begins with the history of coffee around the world and its importance in Costa Rica’s development. The focus will then shift to chocolate with a look at how a cacao seed is turned into pure and ground cocoa. The history and processing of sugar cane will round out our time at Don Juan. Our next two nights will be spent at El Establo Mountain Hotel.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 3

Today’s adventure takes us to the treetops with a Sky Walk experience. The Sky Walk tour consists of hiking on trails through the cloud forest and venturing along hanging bridges above the treetops for a peaceful look at the flora and fauna of the canopy from a completely different perspective. A naturalist will entertain and educate us with narration throughout. Cloud forests are a rare occurrence around the world due to the particular atmospheric conditions required for consistent cloud cover. The clouds often hang as low as the tree canopy, making the Sky Walk an otherworldly experience! Time will be available for shopping and lunch on our own in the small town of Santa Elena before we make our way to the Butterfly Gardens to learn about Costa Rica’s insects and arachnids. With over thirty species of butterflies in four different habitats, over twenty species of live insects and arachnids, and an active leaf-cutter ant colony, there’s plenty to explore.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 4

We will say goodbye to Monteverde after breakfast and venture to the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste, famous for its beaches and home to a dry tropical forest. Along the way, we’ll enjoy the amazing views and history of the local towns. Once settled at Nammbú Beachfront Bungalows, the remainder of the day is at your leisure.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 5

Get ready to explore the jasmine flower waters of the Tempisque River in Palo Verde National Park. Be on the lookout for large crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks as we cruise and keep an eye on the trees for a glimpse of capuchin and howler monkeys swinging from the branches. With iguanas, parrots, and hundreds of other exotic birds making their home in the different ecological zones of the park there’s sure to be something exciting at every turn! Then it’s time to be immersed in the culture of the Chorotega people, beginning with a traditional lunch in a local home. This indigenous group is best known for their skill at crafting exquisite pottery, and we’ll have the opportunity to watch a demonstration of their artisan techniques. Consider taking home one of their pieces as an authentic and meaningful reminder of your experience!

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 6

The day is yours to do as you wish! Relax on the beach, enjoy the infinity pool, rejuvenate in the spa, or take the complimentary shuttle to the town of Samara to shop and explore. The town offers pristine beaches and a number of opportunities for horseback riding, snorkeling, turtle nest viewing, and more. After a fun day, we will gather for a farewell dinner with local entertainment to celebrate our Costa Rican adventure!

(Breakfast and dinner included)
