This morning we depart on our Buffalo Roundup adventure. We will travel as far as Valentine, NE, where our overnight accommodations and a lovely welcome dinner await.

(Dinner included)

Day 2: Wednesday, September 22, 2021

After breakfast we will continue our journey north, stopping at the world-famous Wall Drug for lunch before traveling to Badlands National Park next to the beautiful Black Hills. The afternoon will be spent exploring and picture-taking in this incredible area followed by the remainder of our drive to Rapid City, SD. We’ll settle into our accommodations for the next four nights for an evening at leisure.

(Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 3: Thursday, September 23, 2021

This morning’s adventures will bring us to the colossal Crazy Horse Memorial, the still unfinished mountain carving of the Lakota leader that is being blasted from a mountain in the Black Hills. Time will be available to have lunch on our own and explore the rejuvenated arts community of Hill City. There’s a wonderful selection of funky shops, galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. Then it’s time to drink in the beauty of these forested mountains with a ride on a historic 1880s steam train.

(Breakfast included)

Day 4: Friday, September 24, 2021

We’ll be up bright and early this morning for the annual Buffalo Roundup! Feel the thunder as 1,300 head of buffalo rumble by two designated viewing areas as park personnel, cowboys, and cowgirls do their best to drive the park’s herd into the corrals. After the herd is safely in the corrals the park staff will sort, brand, test, and select certain animals for auction. This afternoon we’ll attend the Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival. This one-of-a-kind event includes a buffalo wallow chili cook-off, buffalo chip throwing contest, cowboy poets, musical entertainment, arts & crafts booths, and much more. After a wonderful day of fun at the Buffalo Roundup, we will return to the hotel for dinner and for another restful night.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 5: Saturday, September 25, 2021

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and time to soak in the early morning beauty of the Black Hills before we depart for Deadwood to explore the Old West and tour the Mount Moriah Cemetery. Here we will find the final resting places of western legends, murderers, and madams such as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Afterward we will enjoy free time to browse and grab lunch on your own before returning to Rapids City. To round out this very special day, we will dine with the presidents at Mount Rushmore, known as the “Shrine to Democracy,” and then enjoy Mount Rushmore’s evening lighting ceremony.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 6: Sunday, September 26, 2021

Today we will begin our journey home with a stop to visit the world’s only Corn Palace along the way. The Palace is redecorated each year with naturally colored corn and other grains and native grasses to make it the “agricultural show-place of the world.” Ears of corn are nailed together to create murals that reflect a theme. Our day will come to an end in Sioux Falls, SD, with a delicious farewell dinner.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 7: Monday, September 27, 2021

Following breakfast we will depart for the Sawmill Hollow Organic Farm, for lunch and a tour of the first aronia berry farm in the United States. After some antique shopping in Walnut, IA, we will complete our journey home.
