The recent host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver is located on a large natural harbor, surrounded by the rugged Coastal Mountains. If time permits, we will take some time to tour Gastown, Granville Island and the 1000 acre Stanley Park before we enjoy our special Welcome Dinner this evening.  (Overnight – Sheraton Wall Centre)

Victoria Day Trip – An early morning departure will take us to the BC Ferry terminal for a spectacular 90-minute cruise through the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island. Our first stop will be at the world-famous Butchart Gardens where there will be plenty of time to explore the 50-acres of color and floral beauty. Later we will travel the short distance to Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia and another of Canada’s most beautiful cities. After a short city tour there will be time to explore the shops, museums and galleries of this little slice of “Old England”. Late in the afternoon we board our deluxe BC Ferry and enjoy a fine buffet dinner as we cruise back to the mainland through the Gulf Islands (Overnight – Sheraton Wall Centre)

Vancouver to Sun Peaks – This morning, in the comfort of our private motorcoach, we leave Vancouver behind and travel east through the lush Fraser River Valley. Soon we will be traveling along the rugged cliffs of the Fraser River surrounded by the peaks of the Coastal and Cascade Mountains. Later in the day we join the Thompson River system and climb to the desert-like environment of British Columbia’s interior plateau. Our day concludes as we arrive at the beautiful alpine resort of Sun Peaks.  (Overnight – Sun Peaks Grand)

Sun Peaks to Jasper – Today’s journey sends us eastward to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Following breakfast, we begin our rail journey north along the banks of the Thompson River, following the paths of the early settlers and fur traders. At mid-day we will join the mighty Fraser River and follow it into the Canadian Rockies. Mt. Robson’s 12,978 ft high peak welcomes us to the province of Alberta and Jasper National Park. Our rail journey comes to an end as we enter the quaint resort community of Jasper. Tonight, we stretch our legs and enjoy a free evening in this delightful community. The shops and restaurants stay open late, and the long daylight hours offer plenty of opportunity to explore.  (Overnight – Chateau Jasper)

Jasper Sightseeing – We start our morning with a brief tour of the community of Jasper. Then, we travel to the rugged Maligne Canyon and take a leisurely 20-minute walk along its ragged walls. Our tour continues along the banks of the Maligne River until we reach the banks of spectacular Maligne Lake, where we relax and enjoy a tranquil 90-minute cruise on this beautiful lake. Surrounded by majestic peaks, the lake holds a mystic spell on those who take the optional walk around Spirit Island. The afternoon is free for shopping, relaxing or perhaps an optional rafting trip on the Athabasca River. Tonight, we enjoy a special BBQ dinner and presentation by a local Ranger.  (Overnight – Chateau Jasper)

Jasper to Banff Sightseeing – This morning we will travel on one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. Our journey will take us south along the Athabasca River and Falls. We’ll continue through two majestic mountain passes on our way to the amazing Columbia Icefields, one of the largest glacier masses in North America, where we will ride on the Athabasca glacier in a specially built Ice Explorer while our driver/guide teaches us about the incredible geological history of the glaciers and mountains. We continue our journey following the Trans Canada Highway and the Bow River eastward. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the road including black bears, elk, moose and eagles. Passing by picturesque Castle Mountain and the shores of the Vermilion Lakes, we soon enter the resort city of Banff. Famous for its fabulous winter skiing, Banff is also a spectacular summer resort. We will have some time to explore the shops, restaurants and galleries, all of which are within an easy, level walking distance from our modern and comfortable hotel.  (Overnight – Banff Caribou Lodge)

Tonight’s finale dinner includes a leisurely, one hour horse-drawn covered wagon ride to the BBQ site located near the Sundance Canyon Trail. We can try our hand at calf-roping, challenge friends to a game of horseshoes or relax in the picnic area while our cook prepares our steaks to order. After a hearty meal, we’ll ride back to Banff’s Warner Stables along the banks of the Bow River.  (Overnight – Banff Caribou Lodge)
