New York City – We depart from our respective airports for New York City. Upon arrival we will gather our bags, meet our transfer and make our way to the Millennium in Midtown Manhattan. This modern hotel is located in Times Square and close to everything! We will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch on our own in the area and explore Rockefeller Center. Conceived over 100 years ago by John D. Rockefeller Jr. as a “city within a city,” Rockefeller Center has long been a hub of remarkable art, style and entertainment. Today, the ice skating rink, NBC, Prometheus, the holiday decorations, Radio City Music Hall and the famous massive Christmas tree can all be found in this area. This evening our group will take a short stroll to the famous Carmine’s for a Welcome Dinner. Carmine’s is a lively and fun Italian restaurant that serves delicious fare family-style. It’s the perfect way for everyone to get to know one another and no one will leave hungry! (Overnight – Millennium)
New York City – For those interested in the magic of live tv, we get up early this morning and make our way to 30 Rockefeller Plaza to see the Today Show! We’ll check out the behind-the-scenes action through the window and watch the live broadcast on the plaza monitors. If we’re lucky, one of the hosts many even stop to say hi! Afterwards we’ll join the rest of the group and board our luxury motorcoach for today’s sightseeing in Midtown Manhattan, including Times Square, the Theater District, Fifth Avenue, the East Side and some shopping! In a session at a rehearsal studio in the Theater District we will have the opportunity to sit and talk to a performer from one of Broadway’s current shows. This session will include personal success stories, career moments and insight into their life as a performer. Our time here will also include a private performance from the artist. Next, take New York’s restless energy and inventiveness, add its distinctive brand of brassy elegance, its delight in impressing visitors and flair for sportsmanship and you have Grand Central Terminal! Still the busiest rail terminal in the US, our guide will share real stories about little-known secrets, anecdotes, archival material and the history of the Terminal before we take time to explore the Grand Central Market, well-known for its unique gifts. From here we take a stroll down Fifth Avenue past the elaborately designed store windows before heading to Central Park for a carriage ride. Like in so many books and movies, our horse-drawn carriages will slowly carry us past New Yorkers and tourists as they stroll, jog and bike in New York City’s playground. The rest of the afternoon is at our leisure to return to the hotel or continue taking advantage of the many shopping opportunities. This evening we will enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant followed by orchestra seating at a hit Broadway show! (Overnight – Millennium)
New York City – After breakfast this morning we will be met by our guide and motorcoach for sightseeing in Lower Manhattan including Little Italy, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, the World Trade Center and the Lower East Side. One World Observatory is positioned on levels 100, 101 and 102 of the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, the 1,776-foot-tall One World Trade Center. One World Observatory provides unique, panoramic views of New York City, its most iconic sites and the surrounding waters. After enjoying the breathtaking view, we will have time at the National 9/11 Memorial for reflection. Our guide will lead us around the area describing the renaissance of the neighborhood from before, during and after 9/11. Next is the Lower East Side neighborhood which still reflects its immigrant history with a truly multi-cultural blend of residents. In the mid and late 1800s the massive influx of immigrants through Ellis island came here to the Lower East Side where the tenement buildings housed people from all over the world. The food and cultures sometimes collided gracefully, while other times they did not. We will tour this neighborhood before a great lunch at Katz Deli, the oldest Jewish deli in America (1888) where they still do things the way they were originally done. Lunch today will consist of sandwiches piled high with corned beef, pastrami and other delicacies. The rest of the day is at our leisure. For those that wish there is an option of going to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island after lunch ($20 per person). Tonight we are on our own to take in another show, enjoy the nightlife or simply relax. (Overnight – Millennium)
New York City – Following breakfast at the hotel the day is at our leisure to explore this magnificent city on our own. There are endless possibilities, including sightseeing, shopping or sitting in a café to people watch. Tonight, dinner is at E & E Grillhouse, a fun, more dynamic cousin to a traditional steakhouse, offering excellent food using only the freshest ingredients. Afterwards we will enjoy another New York tradition: the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular! Orchestra seating awaits for this warm, amazing spectacle featuring the Rockettes! Afterward, time will be available to stroll to the nearby Rockefeller Center Christmas tree ablaze with thousands of lights. Following the tour we will make our way to the airport with wonderful memories and quite possibly a few Christmas gifts in tow! (Overnight – Millennium)
Home – Following breakfast, we say goodbye to our hotel and board our motorcoach for a tour of the Upper West Side before heading to the airport. The Upper West Side is home to many famous actors and singers as well as many beautiful homes, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Central Park, Harlem and more. We will stop at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the world’s largest cathedral and one of the five largest church buildings in the world. This massive Gothic Revival cathedral has been continually under construction since 1892. The tour will highlight the building’s art, history and cross-cultural references. Following the tour we will make our way to the airport with wonderful memories and quite possibly a few Christmas gifts in tow!
