Peoria, IL – We depart from our designated pickup locations and begin our journey to the land of horses, corvettes and bourbon. We will stop for lunch on our own in the Quad Cities before continuing on to Peoria, IL where we will overnight and enjoy a Welcome Dinner together.
Louisville, KY – Following breakfast at the hotel, we’ll board our deluxe motorcoach bound for Louisville, KY! As we motor through Indiana, we’ll stop in Indianapolis for a delicious lunch and gondola ride reminiscent of Venice, Italy. As our gondolier serenades us, we’ll glide through the canals of downtown Indianapolis and experience the beauty and charm of the city. After saying goodbye to Indianapolis, we’ll continue on our way to Louisville where we will check-in to our hotel and explore the area for dinner on our own.
Louisville, KY – We’ll enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before we board our motorcoach to head underground for a tram tour of the Mega Cavern! We will board our Mega Tram and enjoy a leisurely ride through this 100 acre man-made cavern, learning about the site’s history as a mine and its uses today, courtesy of our experienced guide. We will also learn about its role as a bunker during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The state and federal governments made plans to house 50,000 people in the cavern in the event of a nuclear attack, and we will have the opportunity to view a replica of what life in the bunker would have been like. Next, we are off to “Museum Row” and the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory where the world’s most famous baseball bats are made. We’ll see actual bats swung by legendary players such as Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, and Babe Ruth, watch new bats being made, and see the smoke curl as the famous trademark is branded on the finished product. The early afternoon is ours for lunch on our own and to explore the rest of “Museum Row”. The Mohammed Ali Center, art museums, and much more are all within walking distance. Later in the afternoon we will join back together and head to “Whiskey Row” for the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. Here, we’ll witness an Artisanal Distillery where we’ll learn about the process of making bourbon, see it made right before our eyes, and have a tasting! We’ll end the day with dinner together at a local restaurant before retiring to the hotel for the night.
Mount Vernon, IL – We wake up this morning and we’re off to the iconic Churchill Downs for a “Backstretch Breakfast!” This once-in-a-lifetime experience will bring us up close to the world of thoroughbred racing. As we enjoy breakfast right along the rails of the track we will learn about the life of horse racing and watch the elite jockeys and horses train. We then travel to Bowling Green, where we’ll tour the Corvette Factory and Museum and watch in awe as “America’s Sports Car” is made! While touring the museum, we’ll have the opportunity to view over eighty Corvettes in period settings, including mint classics, one-of-a-kind prototypes and modern-day wonders of engineering and design. After a late lunch at the museum, our tour will now point toward home. The afternoon will be spent enjoying the scenery as we drive to Mount Vernon, IL with a stop for dinner on our own along the way.
Galeburg, IL – We begin today with breakfast at our hotel before boarding the motorcoach for a full morning of travel with a rest stop in Springfield, IL and lunch on our own near Peoria. Following lunch we will make the short drive to our overnight stop, Galesburg, IL. Here we will tour the beautiful prairie city and explore the abundance of shopping opportunities. From traditional to trendy, specialty shops to national chains, there are hundreds of stores for every interest! With our shopping cravings satisfied and our appetites ready, we will enjoy a Farewell Dinner together at the Packinghouse Dining Company. Converted from an old meat packing plant, this restaurant has maintained many of the unique features of the old building including the “High Voltage Club” blackboard used to tout sales performances back in the day. After dinner we will head to our hotel for the evening.
Home – After enjoying breakfast at the hotel we will depart for the Quad Cities and a tour of the Chocolate Manor. This locally owned chocolate shop produces a wide assortment of delicious handcrafted treats using only the finest ingredients, from creams and truffles to mouth watering toffees. We’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the art of chocolate making, receive a special gift box of chocolates, and have an opportunity to purchase some additional goodies. We say goodbye to the Quad Cities after lunch on our own and board the motorcoach for the rest of our journey home.
