Itinerary

Day 1: Friday, October 1, 2021

This morning we will board our motorcoach and transfer to the airport for our flight to Albuquerque, NM. Upon our arrival in the “Land of Enchantment,” we will transfer to our hotel to get checked in. After some time to settle in, we will enjoy a delicious welcome dinner together and toast to a wonderful Balloon Fiesta experience!

Note: The airport location and airline will be confirmed no sooner than nine months before departure.

(Dinner included)

Day 2: Saturday, October 2, 2021

Today we will learn why Albuquerque is called the “Balloon Capitol of the World.”* We’ll depart on an early morning transfer to Balloon Fiesta Park to watch the Dawn Patrol show from the Chasers’ Club. The Dawn Patrol began at the world-famous Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in 1978 when two California balloonists developed position lighting systems that allowed them to fly at night. Dawn Patrol pilots take off in the dark and fly until it is light enough to see landing sites. Then at dawn, when the winds are calmest, we will witness the mass ascension of hot-air balloons in a rainbow of colors and a variety of shapes. Next on our agenda is a visit to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center to explore the amazing interactive exhibits on the history and stories of the native Pueblo people. Then we will enjoy some free time in Albuquerque’s Old Town to wander through the many shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Old Town’s tree-lined plaza and charming adobe buildings and churches are sure to delight the sightseer and the shopper! Time will be available to relax and freshen up at the hotel before we return to the Balloon Fiesta and the Chasers Club for a buffet dinner, the Balloon Glow, and the AfterGlow™ Fireworks Show. The Balloon Glow occurs when all the balloons fire their burners and light up at the same time. It is one of the most spectacular moments of the Balloon Fiesta and is followed by New Mexico’s most impressive fireworks display.

* If there is a problem with the weather today, we will be able to enjoy the Balloon Fiesta on one of the next two days.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 3: Sunday, October 3, 2021

Today we are off to Moab, UT, to begin our National Parks adventure! This will be a travel day on the motorcoach with the necessary stops for comfort and lunch on our own along the way. We will check into our Moab hotel after a full day of travel and enjoy an evening at leisure.

(Breakfast included)

Day 4: Monday, October 4, 2021

Following breakfast at our hotel this morning, we will depart for Dead Horse Point State Park. The view from the park is one of the most spectacular in the southwest, with Canyonlands National Park stretching to the south and the mighty Colorado River 2,000 feet below. We’ll then do some sightseeing in nearby Arches National Park. The 18,000-square-foot visitor center will introduce us to the unique geologic forces that created the highest concentration of natural arches in the world, with over 2,000 named arches within its 73,000-acre boundary. Then its time to see the park’s highlights in person, including Park Avenue, Balanced Rock, The Windows, and Delicate Arch. This evening we are in for a unique experience as we enjoy a cowboy-style, Dutch-oven dinner overlooking the Colorado River and then board a flat-bottomed boat for a journey up the mighty Colorado through red rock canyons. As the sun dips in the west, the canyon colors will come to life while we learn about the river’s ecosystem, geology, and history from our knowledgeable and entertaining guide.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 5: Tuesday, October 5, 2021

Another day of Utah’s breathtaking scenery lies ahead! We’ll leave Moab and drive through the town of Green River, skirting the San Rafael Swell to arrive at Capitol Reef National Park. A picnic lunch under ancient cottonwood trees awaits us before we learn about the park’s pioneer history and view its petroglyphs, beautiful rock formations, and deep canyons. Up next is a drive along one of America’s most spectacular roads. Scenic Highway 12 has been designated as an “All American Road” and is one of the crown jewels of the Scenic Byways system. We’ll journey over Boulder Mountain, reaching elevations over 9,000 feet with spectacular views of the Water Pocket Fold and beyond, and then travel through the vast expanses of cream and rose-colored Navajo sandstone in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Dramatic cliffs, high mesas, beautiful streams, and deep canyons in multi-hued colors will keep us enthralled across this 1.9-million-acre monument! After a day of exploration, we will check into our hotel located just outside Bryce Canyon National Park.

(Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 6: Wednesday, October 6, 2021

This morning we will venture into Bryce Canyon National Park for some sightseeing and optional hiking. In the words of the early settler for whom the canyon is named, Ebenezer Bryce, this is “one hell of a place to lose a cow.” This afternoon will bring us to Kanab, known as “Little Hollywood.” This area has been used in the filming of more than fifty major motion pictures and television series since the 1930s.

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 7: Thursday, October 7, 2021

Today’s adventure takes us through Color Country to journey up the beautiful Kaibab Plateau. Reaching elevations over 8,000 feet, the Kaibab was a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt and is home to a rich variety of wildlife including elk, deer, turkey, and the unique white tailed Kaibab squirrel. We’ll then arrive at Grand Canyon National Park for a day of sightseeing at the North Rim. This 1.2-million-acre national park hosts a wide variety of wildlife and scenic wonders. The North Rim receives one tenth the number of visitors compared with the more developed South Rim and thus provides a much quieter and more natural Grand Canyon experience! We will learn about the geology and history of the canyon and visit a few of the most spectacular view points in the park, including Point Imperial, Walhalla Point, and Cape Royal. Our day will come to an end back in Kanab.

(Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 8: Friday, October 8, 2021

Today we will continue our journey through Color Country to Zion National Park, Utah’s oldest national park. Zion contains some of the most colorful deep canyons, sheer rock walls, and unique formations in all of Utah’s plateau country. An early Mormon settler described the park’s massive formations as “temples built by hands, not of man,” and the Paiutes believed mischievous spirits lived among the 2,000-foot-high towers and would not enter the canyon alone or remain there after dark. Time will be available for lunch on our own followed by the opportunity to explore Zion Canyon, a brilliant green canyon set against the backdrop of sheer red cliffs with an occasional waterfall fanning out from the rocks. We’ll continue our travels south to Las Vegas to check into our hotel and casino resort and enjoy a wonderful farewell dinner together!

(Breakfast and dinner included)

Day 9: Saturday, October 9, 2021

We will transfer to the airport after breakfast for our flight home.
