Winnipeg, Canada – Welcome to Winnipeg, capital city of the province of Manitoba. After passing through Customs, transfer to the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. If time permits, take a short tour of Winnipeg including the historic Forks area and the amazing Museum of Human Rights. Enjoy dinner tonight with your adventure companions and meet your Interpretive Guide who will review the exciting itinerary that lies ahead on the arctic tundra of Churchill tomorrow.
Tundra Buddy Lodge – Start the day with an early morning flight from Winnipeg to Churchill, nestled on the shores of Hudson’s Bay. Arriving in Churchill, we will tour the town and visit the local and historical points of interest including Cape Merry and the Manitoba Conservation’s central Polar Bear holding area. After lunch, explore the amazing Churchill Eskimo Museum before being transferred to the Tundra Buggy launch site. Here we’ll begin the trek to the Tundra Buggy Lodge where a home-cooked meal and an evening on the tundra with the largest concentration of polar bears in North America await!
Tundra Exploration – Each morning after breakfast we depart for a full-day Tundra Buggy Adventure in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. Following the directions of the experienced local guide, we’ll set out to search for polar bears, arctic fox, ptarmigan and other wildlife. Our specially-designed Tundra Buggy will meander slowly through the wildlife area to ensure the safety of the animals and the maintenance of the fragile environment. A picnic-style lunch will be served at noon as we stop to enjoy an educational conversation with our guide. In the afternoon our adventure continues until we arrive back at the Tundra Buggy Lodge. Once we have arrived, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for polar bears as they are known to venture closely to the vehicles during dinner and the sunset hours. In the evenings we’ll have the opportunity to take part in the cultural, historical and scientific presentations given by our Interpretive Guides. There is also an excellent library and lots of space for card games and conversation with our fellow adventurers. The evening is a great time to look to the sky and watch for the spectacular northern lights.
Winnipeg, Canada – After breakfast, we’ll depart on our last full-day of exploring the tundra in search of polar bears and other arctic wildlife. Our final picnic lunch on the tundra paves the way for our afternoon expedition prior to arrival at the Churchill airport. We’ll board our aircraft and relax and enjoy a light dinner and refreshments on the flight to Winnipeg as we reminisce on this amazing adventure.
Home – Too soon our arctic adventure comes to an end as we transfer to the Winnipeg International Airport for the return flight home.
