Begin in Lincoln and visit DeSoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge, the Steamship Bertrand Museum, and enjoy a coffee stop at Master’s Hand. Tour the John G. Neihardt State Historical Site and the historic Dr. Susan LaFlesche Picotte hospital before overnighting in Sioux City. Dinner on your own.
Day 2 – Thursday, October 16 – Norfolk, NE
Highlights include Ponca State Park’s Scenic Overlook, the Lewis & Clark Visitor Center, Gavin’s Point Dam, and a light lunch in Crofton. Visit Ashfall Fossil Beds, the White Buffalo Girl marker, and Neligh Mill Historic Site before overnighting in Norfolk. Dinner on your own.
Day 3 – Friday, October 17 – Return Home
Explore the Elkhorn Valley Museum and its Johnny Carson exhibit. Visit the Genoa Indian Industrial School, the Andrew Jackson Higgins Memorial, and enjoy a group lunch at The Oak Room in Columbus. Tour Columbus murals (if available) and return to Lincoln.
